DAWN (Depression Attention for Women Now) is an effective program for improving quality of mental health care and clinical depression outcomes in women. DAWN is a highly structured time-limited approach that uses a team-based model to ensure comprehensive care. DAWN was proven effective in a recent clinical trial in two urban obstetrics-gynecology (Ob-Gyn) clinics.

Collaborative care is truly a team approach to a patient’s health care involving the patient, a care manager, the patient’s primary care physician or Ob-Gyn physician and a psychiatrist. Going beyond simply making referrals, it means all providers work together to achieve goals, and empower the patients self-care skills.
